While visiting a friend's grandmother, I walked by this piece of art. Apparently, a popular dealer lived in the building in the 1980s, and artists would come over to do their business. I was unsure whether it was an art dealer or a drug dealer, but either way, this work, which several people have attempted to pry off the wall, exists and is amazing. I can identify Basquiat, Fab 5 Freddie, and, of course, Keith Haring, but the rest has eluded me, though legend has it that Warhol was a regular to the building.
So, I did a test for a video series, which might still happen, despite technical failures.
Aaron Marcus is a graphic design legend, and he's a great guy. I shot this semi-avant garde documentary with the hopes that it could form the basic outline for a series, and it still might. If you're a Northern California artist who is willing to talk about their works with their works present, drop me a line at [email protected] and I'll try and set something up!
